Saiko Shihan Goshi Yamaguchi, Hanshi Ingo De Jong, Hanshi Peter Brandon and Supporting Shihans.

Congratulations to Ignazio Shihan (and IKGA Italy) for hosting the Open Tournament and gasshuku. IKGA Europe had the pleasure of Saiko Shihan Goshi Yamaguchi and the South African continent coming together for this event.

The IKGA England squad competed taking medals in Kata, Kumite and Bunkai.

The open tournament was followed by a 5 day training gasshuku. A special mention goes to Shihan Mark Adams for grading to Nana Dan (7th dan) Congratulations.

In Memoriam - Renshi - Shihan Tony Childs

It is with great sadness to learn the passing of Shihan Tony Childs.

Condolences go to his family and friends.

Shihan Tony was the chief instructor for IKGA England for many years and helped propagate Yamaguchi Goju Kai’s Karate-Do in England for 40 years.

May he rest in peace.

Congratulations goes to Jayne Trigg in gaining her black belt shodan and Carol Windham for gaining her black belt nidan. Supporting the grading were other mock grading for the European camp, along with some high grade brown belts also grading. Well done all.

Big congratulations to all those at Tyne and Wear Yamaguchi Goju-Kai today on their first grading. We had 21 students grading today, juniors and seniors, all attempting their Yellow belt (9 ^th Kyu) grading under Mark Purcell Shihan with help from Chris Lively Sensei. I am pleased to say they all passed! Everyone was great today in their training and grading. You all done your Sensei, your club and yourselves proud. Very well done!

Shoshu

New KATA for training, newly devised by Goshi Yamaguchi (Chairman/President) , will be unveiled for the first time.

There are three new KATA, "KENSHU", "SHOSHU", and "RYOSHU", and the generic name is "SANSHU".

Like SANCHIN and TENSHO, these kata were devised to contribute to the training of Goju-ryu Karate-do. While they are made from simple movements, you can more deeply understand the concept of receiving (blocking) using the circular motions peculiar to Goju-ryu, and the concept of movements that turn into counterattacks.

The second Kata to be released is "SHOSHU".

The name SHOSHU means “to protect with a palm.”

*These KATA are for training. They cannot be used for competitions.

*After learning "KENSHU", let's proceed to practice "SHOSHU".

Grading, fete, and website update

June 2018 event updates and a change of structure to the website

The weekend of the 23rd and 24th June 2018 have seen two events go swimmingly.

On the Saturday Sensei Lauren did a display with a number of her club members at the All Saints Church Summer fete. They all demostrated their skills, including basics, fighting and kata - including a number of pairs and team kata demonstrations. Everyone went away happy, not least her students who were all rewarded with an ice cream each!

On the Sunday was the Thurrock grading at the Long Lane dojo. As usual there were a large number of students grading (including some high level junior brown belts) and all passed, many with A grade passes.

The website has also seen a restructuring over the past weeks. It has been expanded to inlcude other association clubs in England. Clubs can now be found via locale under the 'clubs' tab, with instructor details listed on there for ease of contact. Expect more updates over the coming weeks!

New YouTube channel under Yamaguchi Goju-Kai Karate-Do England and first videos published from the KDF competition

Yesterday members of our club attended the KDF Karate competition in Barking. A variety of medals were won by our students at the tournament including several golds. Please see our Facebook page for full results once compiled.

Numerous rounds of competition featuring our students were recorded using the association's newest equipment. These have made their way onto our new YouTube channel 'Yamaguchi Goju-Kai Karate-Do England'. World Championship Results

Wonderful experiences and great successes for the English squad - And all classes are now back on

Our squad have all returned from the Goju-Kai World Championships in Canada at the end of September. It was a well arranged tournament with hundreds of competitors from all over the world, and took place at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

The England team racked up a grand total of 21 medals, including golds in kumite for Lauren Adams Wright in the Sr -68kg & +68kg category and Danielle Ball in the 16/17 junior +59kg category.

Now home, the team will be back in training soon with a variety of upcoming domestic tournaments to work towards and the knowledge that the next worlds will be in iconic Tokyo in 2021!

As a result of everyone being home, classes are now all back on and taught by their respective instructors.

Goju-Kai World Championships 2017

Club members and instructors away for several weeks - classes may be affected

The club are attending the quadrennial Goju-Kai World Championships in Canada which runs from 28th September to 1st October. We have over 65 entries so far and have high hopes for several of our competitors. Watch this space for results upon our return and gallery updates!

Due to the competition however, classes may be subject to change. Lauren will only be running her Wednesday evening class from the week starting 25th Sept to the week ending 15th Oct. Please note as well that the phone number registered on the site will not be monitored for those 3 weeks but emails will be. Please email us with any questions about classes or speak to Lauren or Mark prior to them leaving.
