Yamaguchi Goju-Kai Karate-Do

England

The club in Grays is t aught by Shihan Mark Adams 7th Dan .

Mark began training in martial arts in 1972, beginning with judo before moving on to karate and kickboxing, grading up to 2nd Dan black belt in Shotokan Karate.

In 1988 Mark started training in Goju-Kai Karate. Due to his previous karate experience he was able to attain his 2nd Dan black belt in Goju-Kai Karate a year later, and began competing in Goju-Kai tournaments all over Europe, medalling at numerous meets.

In 1993, after gaining teaching experience and unsuccessfully trying to find an appropriate local karate club for his children, Mark opened his own club in Thurrock.

It wasn't until 2002 that he was able to turn to this full time, and he has since grown the club to what it is today.

Mark continues to train and improve himself, demonstrated by the attaining of his 7th Dan black belt recently. All the while he strives to improve his teaching by attending as many courses and seminars as he can to pass further knowledge on to his students.

I’m pleased to announce that we have secured funding from the National Lottery to fund a project to run well being fitness classes, The project will be a weekly multi-sport and fitness session for a group of retired and unemployed seniors. The session will be largely themed around flexibility and mobility to get people active.

The focus is to provide activity to the groups that do not otherwise receive access to coaching, learning and opportunities to become/stay active. The content of the multi-sports/activities-based programme will be designed by Sport Works to suit the skill and fitness levels of the participants, they will be designed to show a pathway to joining sports clubs so all people, should they wish, can further develop a sporting future.

The project will include a coffee get together which will allow for the individuals to create friendship and help with Mental health
